Week 4

Monday - During a wander along the banks of the Thames I stumbled across this strange box with a Paul Smith suit in. It's sort of a glass container painted fluorescent pink. It was outside the Design Museum, which I didn't have time to go into, but I found the box intriguing. It was lit from the inside so the painted glass sides glow, and you can see it from quite a way off. The meaning was lost on me but I thought it was worth a snap.

Tuesday - A quick snack to refuel during my V&A visit. It was just what I needed, but I still can't begin to fathom why it cost so much (nearly £5!)  At the till I felt completely unable to say actually I don't want it if it's going to be so pricey. I handed my money over in shock, and then savoured every last mouthful. Maybe I'm a pushover. Or maybe I was really hungry. Either way, next time I'm taking a snack.

Wednesday - Breakfast in the cafe at the Natural History Museum. Just as expensive, but the muffin was super tasty, so I tried to let it go. I regretted buying a drink when I noticed the water carafes on the tables though.

Thursday - Tired from our excursions we had a big lie in and then watched films in the afternoon until Ben had to go to work. We were both pleasantly surprised by Now You See Me, it was very clever with a great cast. Definitely worth a watch.

Friday - After being cooped up in the house on Thursday, on Friday we decided to go for a wander round the local art gallery. Despite having lived here for four years Ben had never visited! It has some permanent exhibitions, some temporary. This is part of the permanent collection, it's a painting of bedsheets, but when you see it in the flesh it looks like a photograph because it's painted so finely.

Saturday - I was (and still am) feeling full of a cold, so I hibernated all day. The most productive thing I did was pick a dress from my wardrobe for my birthday dinner on Friday. I bought it from ASOS before Christmas but never got round to wearing it over the festive period. Although I was disappointed that I didn't wear it over Christmas, I'm now infinitely glad that I don't have to fork out for a new dress. And with a velvet bodice decorated with sparkly crystals and a bit of netting to make the skirt puff out, it really is a perfect birthday dress.

Sunday - Today I tidied my desk. Since I moved in (August!) you haven't been able to see the surface of the desk, it's just been a mound of papers. I got away with it because I was doing all of my work in the lab or the computer room at uni. But now that I'll be back to lectures soon, I'll have to do some general writing up at my desk. Furthermore, my editorial work is starting to mount up again, and I tend to do that at home, not at the library, so I have no excuse. I need a desk. Having done it I actually feel a lot better, my entire room looks clearer, so I'll be making a big effort to keep it this way.

Overall, I've had a lovely week, the best of which I've told you about already in other blog posts. It was difficult to pick something to photograph on the days I knew I'd be blogging about anyway, so I tried to pick something for the project that I wouldn't have bothered to mention in the usual blog. Do you think it worked? What have you been up to this week?

  1. Isn't it amazing how much is close to us but we never go and see? I'd be like that with the art gallery too!

The Paul Smith exhibition is something I really want to go and see, and good job you've reminded me to book tickets!

    Hmm maybe...
